Lady Gators’ up-and-down season comes to an end

The Gatewood girls’ basketball team had an up-and-down season in 2022-23 and it ended last week in the second round of the GIAA Class AA state playoffs.

Lady Tigers knock off Greenforest, advance to second round of state

The No. 3 seed Greene County Lady Tigers went on the road earlier this week and defeated the Greenforest Lady Eagles 47-43 in the first round of the Class A Division II state playoffs.

Gators win district title, prep for state tourney

Last week, the Gatewood boys’ basketball team captured the GIAA Class AA District 2/4 championship by defeating rival Brentwood Academy. Led by senior Jackson Morris, the Gators upended the War Eagles 69-53 Friday night. Morris scored a game-high 30 points, with 24 of them off 3-pointers.

War Eagles ‘hungry’ as state playoffs begin

After falling to Westside (Augusta) 81-63 last Friday night in the Region 4-AA championship game, Putnam County boys’ basketball enters the Class AA state playoffs as the No. 2 seed. The War Eagles (21-6) will face No. 3 Toombs County (20-8) in the opening round on Feb. 22, at home.

Lady Titans continue to roll after third-straight region title

The Lake Oconee Academy girls basketball team won its third straight region championship last week with a dominant win over Towns County. The Lady Titans controlled the ball the entire game and defeated the Lady Indians 60-21 for the Region 8 final. This earned them the overall No.

Lady Dogs set to face Long County in first round of state playoffs

Morgan County girls basketball enters the Class AAA state playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AAA.  The Lady Dogs (19-7) are matched up against No. 3 seed Long County (17-8) in the first round, and they will face the Lady Blue Tide on Tuesday.

After winning the GHSA Class A Public state championship last year, the Lake Oconee Academy girls basketball team has set itself up in a similar position.
