The Morgan County, Lake Oconee Academy and Greene County volleyball programs all continued their region matchups last week. They each enter this week of competition with only a few contests left before the end of the 2022 season.
We will check in on how they’re doing in this week’s volleyball roundup.
Morgan County
The Spike Dogs are riding a nine-game winning streak into this week. They haven’t lost a match since Sept. 10, which was a 2-1 defeat to Class AAAAAAA’s Dacula.
Morgan County didn’t lose a set last week, defeating region opponents Harlem and Cross Creek Tuesday. The Spike Dogs beat Jackson and Winder-Barrow at home Thursday.
Their convincing 2-0 victory over the Lady Doggs of Winder was the most important. WBHS had defeated Morgan County earlier this season, although the Spike Dogs took care of business and swept the Lady Doggs in front of a home crowd last week.
Haedyn Crumbley had a team-high five kills, followed by Makenzie Pitzer and Quinn Butler, who each totaled five in the match. The trio, along with Presley Hill, led Morgan County past Class AAAAA volleyball powerhouse Winder-Barrow (30-4).
The Spike Dogs enter this week of competition with a 27-5 overall record. They are also undefeated in Area 4-AAA play with a 7-0 mark. Their schedule this week includes matches against region opponents Salem (1-9) and Hephzibah (3-10) Tuesday. The Spike Dogs will also face region foe Academy of Richmond County (15-8) and non-league opponent Tallulah Falls School (22-10) at home Thursday.
Lake Oconee Academy
The Lady Titans swept Greene County during the first week of the month; however, they have had a rough go of it since that point in the 2022 season.
LOA played in a tournament two weeks ago, which was the start of a seven-match losing streak. The Lady Titans lost to non-region opponents Union County, Fannin County, Lanier and Pickens during that stretch. They also dropped a home-and-home series to area opponent Oglethorpe County last week.
Chris Ingle’s squad bounced back and swept Social Circle last week, which gave LOA a 9-11 overall record. The wins also gave them a 6-2 mark in area play going into this week.
Love Kalpak, Victoria Goubran, Lauren Eley and Chloe Manville helped the Lady Titans during that rough stretch of the schedule. They will need to be great again this week as LOA faces region foe Aquinas twice to close out the 2022 regular season.
Greene County
The Lady Tigers got their first victory of the season last week with a win over Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday, Sept. 20. They won with an exciting 3-2 decision. However, the Lady Tigers of Washington defeated Greene County last Thursday, 3-2.
Still, that victory is huge for head coach Sharda Massey and the Lady Tigers in year two of the program.
Greene County is currently 1-7 overall and in area play. The Lady Tigers are playing a region-only schedule this season, which will only help them in the future.
This week, they will face Oglethorpe County Tuesday in Lexington, and Thursday in Greensboro. Those two matches will conclude their 2022 schedule, per MaxPreps. com
