GREENE COUNTY
Lake Oconee Academy (3-3) is back on the road this Friday to take on Crawford County (1-4) at 7:30 p.m. for the team’s seventh game of the season.
• Series History: This will be the first-ever meeting between Lake Oconee Academy and Crawford County. The Titans are coming off one of their best offensive games to date and will have to get on the bus for the second-consecutive week to take on the Eagles.
Second-year head coach Patrick Stewart mentioned to the Lake Oconee News that Crawford County’s record doesn’t tell the whole story.
“Crawford’s record doesn’t show how good of a team they really are,” Stewart said. “They do a lot on offense, so it has been a grind preparing for them defensively. Our guys are ready for the challenge and look to show out Friday night.”
The Eagles opened up the season with four straight losses before finally beating Twiggs County 27-14 last week for the team’s first win of the year.
Even though they have had a rough start to the season, Crawford County is figuring things out on both sides of the ball. After three consecutive blowouts, the Eagles lost a two-point game to Central Fellowship Christian Academy a few weeks ago – looking better than they had all season up to that point.
This will also be the Eagles third-consecutive game in their home stadium, so their comfort levels will only be higher heading into this Friday’s contest.
The Titans’ may be on the road again, but Stewart acknowledged his guys love playing the underdog role away from home.
“Our guys actually love getting on the road and going to someone’s place to upset them,” Stewart said. “Every team that schedules us thinks they will have an automatic win, so we always play with a chip on our shoulder.”
With a win, the Titans would have a winning record for the first time since the third week of the season when they were 2-1.
