Morgan County High School officially has its new head boys' basketball coach in Cody Anderson.
Anderson, originally from Alto, Ga., returns to the Peach State after serving as a men’s basketball assistant coach at Longwood University for the last season.
He has a decade of coaching experience at the high school and college levels. His last stop with the Lancers was one of his most successful.
During the 2021-22 season, Anderson helped Longwood reach new highs and set a variety of program records. The Lancers claimed the Big South Conference regular-season and tournament titles, which helped them earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid. However, they lost to Tennessee in the first round.
Anderson joined Longwood University’s staff in 2015 as director of operations under former head coach Jayson Gee. Upon his hire, he was the youngest men’s assistant basketball coach in the nation. Anderson also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
Previously, Anderson served as the head boys’ basketball coach at his alma mater, Habersham Central High School, for three seasons (2019-2021). During his time at the helm, the Raiders recorded the program’s highest number of single-season wins in nearly a decade.
Anderson graduated from UGA in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education. He was also a student assistant coach during his four years in Athens under former head coach Mark Fox. He helped lead the Bulldogs to three straight 20-win seasons.
He brings a wide set of skills to MCHS, including player development, scouting and analytics.
Per NowHabersham.com, Anderson founded the Anderson Basketball Academy in 2013, which helps provide coaches with “individual skill workouts for students in Habersham County.”
The Bulldogs went 8-15 overall in 2021 and missed the GHSA Class AAA state playoffs for a third straight season. They hope to return to the postseason under the direction of Anderson.
