MCHS T&F has success at sectionals

The Morgan County track and field program asserted its dominance at the Class AAA sectionals meet this past weekend at East Jackson High School.

The boys’ and girls’ teams are each sending six individuals to the GHSA Track and Field Championship meet.

Morgan County’s Josh Jones placed first overall at the sectionals meet in the 110-meter hurdles event with a PR time of 14.19.

He also placed first overall in the 300-meter hurdles event with a 38.96 mark. Jones was also part of the

That relay team also consisted of Jared Gilbert, Rodney Stephens and Jaydon Dorsey.

Sam Wingfield had another strong finish in the 1600-meter race with a third-place showing.

His mark of 4:49.84 edged out fourth-place finisher Zachary Benner of Hart County.

Jacere Cooper set a season record in the shot put event. His mark of 47-06.00 was good enough for a fourth-place finish.

Meanwhile, on the girls’ side, there were six individual placers in various events.

Haedyn Crumbley placed eighth overall in the 1600-meter race with a time of 6:28.16.

In the 3200-meter race, Drew Biersmith finished eighth overall with a mark of 14:42.19.

In the field events, Jamiah Cox tied for fourth place in the shot put competition.

Her mark of 32-08.50 was a season record and tied with Savannah’s Destiny Allen.

Cox also qualified for the state meet in the discus event with a seventh-place finish. Her 93-00 mark was also a PR.

La’Meysia Wade placed fourth in the long jump, posting a 16-04.00 mark.

She also finished sixth overall in the triple jump, setting a season record with a 32-10.00 spot.

The Class AAA state meet will be held at Carrollton High School this upcoming weekend.
