Lake Oconee Academy’s Jacy Singleton will live out her dream of playing softball at the college level next year.
Singleton, a recent graduate of Lake Oconee Academy, signed her national letter of intent to play at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. The former Lady Titan held a signing ceremony last month.
Singleton told the Lake Oconee News how excited she was to continue her softball career at the next level. She announced her plans to commit to the Lady Bobcats on April 15 and signed a few weeks later.
“For the past two or three years, I’ve been doing softball camps to get exposed to colleges, and around the end of my junior year, I decided to go to a camp at GCSU, not thinking anything would come of it,” she said. “I recently talked to the coach, and he texted me asking if I wanted to come out to tour the school with others. I got to know the coach and the team, and I loved it. It just went from there. I’m excited about this chance.”
Singleton’s dream will finally come true when she enrolls in the fall and begins workouts shortly after her move-in date. She aims to crack the lineup and make an instant impact, but she knows she’ll have to work for it.
Singleton is excited that the dream will become a reality in the coming months. She has worked for this moment, playing high school and travel league ball for the past several years, hoping to accomplish her goal.
“It’s been a dream of mine since I was little. It’s awesome to see it come full circle, and all the hard work has paid off,” she said. “It feels amazing, and my family couldn’t be happier for me, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Singleton felt like she left her mark on the program at LOA during her four-year tenure. She earned a few postseason awards, including being an All-State Second-Team selection. Singleton was also named a Class A Division II Region 8 First-Team member and won the Region 8 Co-Region Player of the Year award as a senior.
However, Singleton credited her teammates and coaches for her success on and off the diamond. Singleton said she couldn’t continue her career at Georgia College without all those people who helped her along the way.
Last season, Singleton and fellow senior Mackenzie Burnette helped lead their team back to the state playoffs. During their senior campaign last fall, the Lady Titans finished 14-13 overall and 6-2 in the region.
“The past four years at LOA were honestly amazing. Going into LOA in seventh grade, I was nervous because I really didn’t know what to expect,” Singleton said. “It ended up being more of a family and not a team. Mackenzie and I helped lead the way, but we learned a lot from our younger teammates. They taught us so many things, and we taught them. Last year, we learned softball is more of a team sport and played together.”
