Lake Oconee Academy girls’ basketball senior Georgia Bosart scored her 1,000th point last week.
Bosart reached the mark in a 45-43 loss to out-of-state opponent Graceville during a tournament in Panama City Beach. The 2022-23 All-State selection joins former Lady Titans and teammates Jada Williams, Hannah Heinen, and Destiny McClendon to reach the 1,000-point club.
“That is some pretty good company to be in,” Bosart told the Lake Oconee News. “It’s a very great accomplishment. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates, family, and coaches.”
Bosart, the team’s leading scorer, knew going into the game against Graceville that she was close.
However, the moment sunk in after coach Savannah Soles called a timeout after she made the shot.
“Coach Soles called a timeout and that’s when I knew I had done it,” Bosart said. “It was so cool.”
Bosart has accomplished a lot in her career at LOA. Whether it be leading the Lady Titans in points and rebounds in the state championship win over Hancock Central two years ago, or earning All-State honors as a junior, she thinks scoring 1,000 points ranks higher than anything else.
“It’s pretty cool because it shows how hard I have worked over the last three-and-a-half years,” Bosart said. “It’s a pretty cool thing to do, but now I am ready to get back and focus on our next game.”
According to Soles, Bosart scoring her 1,000th point is very impressive, especially because she’s had to share the court with McClendon, Heinen, and Williams as an underclassman the last three years.
“For her to do this in the first half of her senior season, it’s incredible,” Soles said. “It shows how hard she has worked, but her saying she wants to get back at it shows you what kind of a player she is. She’s been a great teammate and leader for us the past few seasons. I’m proud to be her coach.”
Bosart has helped Lake Oconee Academy win three straight region championships and make consecutive state title game appearances. She’s been an All-Region and All-State selection as well.
Bosart’s hard work under Soles – along with former Lady Titan coaches Kevin Furtado and Ed Wilson – has helped her reach this goal. She’s learned a lot under each coach in the past four years.
Last season, Bosart was one of the team’s top scorers, but she also led in assists. She averaged over six assists during the regular season, which included multiple games with double-digit assists.
Bosart is the Lady Titans’ leading scorer so far this season. She also leads the charge in a few other statistical categories, but she doesn’t want to take all the credit. Bosart likes to share the spotlight.
“Instead of the moment being all about myself, I wanted to make sure to include my teammates,” Bosart said. “During the timeout, they all congratulated me, but I made sure to thank them for helping me reach 1,000 points. They all have played a key role in our success during the past few years.”
Bosart and her team are working toward winning another region title and making it back to the playoffs.
“We’ve got to take it one step at a time,” Bosart said. “We are going to keep grinding and playing hard.”
