Kzon Dennis sprints into the future with high aspirations

Greene County track athlete Kzon Dennis does it all both on the track and in the classroom as he hopes to major in architectural engineering one day.

Over the weekend, Dennis ran in the GHSA Class A-Public State track meet, where he finished first in the 3200 meter second in the 1600 meter and third in the 800 meter races - all of which were personal bests.

His hard work ethic has transferred over to the classroom where he currently holds a 3.6 GPA at Greene County High School.

Dennis believes track has been influential in who he’s become as a student-athlete.

“It’s really hard, but I’d say I’m disciplined. Track and multiple other sports helped me stay organized with my time,” Dennis said. “My communication skills used to not be that good, but being on the track team really helped with that.”

As a whole, running helped Dennis realize what kind of image he wanted to put out, not only to college recruiters, but to friends and family as well.

Dennis acknowledged how participating for the Tigers’ track team over the last two seasons has helped him realize what’s important - win or lose.

“It’s really helped me become a better person. In my losses, I learned from my mistakes to better myself,” Dennis said. “In my wins, it showed me how to be more humble, and I feel like that has really affected me as an overall person.”

Dennis is currently undecided on where he wants to attend college, but he does know he would like to continue running track at a higher level.

After starting running in early middle school, Dennis took a break from the sport. During his junior year of high school, he decided to come out and run for the Tigers’ team, and his impact was immediate.

He was a region champion for the cross country team in the fall of 2021 and became a state champion as a senior.

Regardless, Dennis believes he could have had more success if he would have started earlier.

“If I would have had more time, I could have been a better overall for both cross country and track and field,” Dennis said. “But with the little time I was there, I felt like me and the team ran well.”
