Former Morgan County and Vanderbilt standout basketball player Tyrin Lawrence announced his plans to transfer to Georgia on Friday.

A seasoned guard, Lawrence has been a key player at Vanderbilt for the past four seasons. With one year of eligibility remaining, his decision to transfer to Georgia is a testament to his skills and experience.

In recent memory, Lawrence also becomes the second former Morgan County basketball player to transfer to Georgia. Three years ago, former Bulldog Jailyn Ingram announced he was transferring from Florida Atlantic University to Georgia. Ingram played two seasons at Georgia before finishing up his final season of eligibility in 2022-23. Ingram is now playing professional basketball in Europe.

Lawrence started 28 games this past season at Vanderbilt and was the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 13.8 points per game. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard also was the team's third-leading rebounder with 5.4 rebounds per game and led the Commodores in steals with 39 total. As a senior, Lawrence also shot 39.9 percent from the field and 27.2 percent from the 3-point line.

Lawrence was Vanderbilt's breakout player in 2022-23 as a junior. He averaged 13.1 points per game and shot 50.2 percent from the field. Lawrence scored double figures in 24 games and had one double-double as the Commodores almost made the NCAA tournament.

Lawrence was a standout player at the high school level for Morgan County. He was the 2019 GHSA Class AAA State Player of the Year and was part of region championship teams in 2017, 2018, and 2019. As a senior, Lawrence helped the Bulldogs win a state championship.
