Dennis, several other athletes qualify for state meet

Greene County High School sent several athletes to compete at the Class A-Public state sectionals meet this past weekend at Banks County High School.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified numerous athletes in various events for the GHSA Class A-Public Track and Field State Championship meet.

The highlight of the day for Greene County was senior Kzon Dennis, who placed in the top-eight of four different events at the sectionals meet.

He placed first overall in the 1600-meter race with a time of 4:50.75, which was a PR.

Dennis also finished second in the 800-meter (2:09.31) and 3200-meter (11:08.28) races.

Finally, he was a part of a 4x400-meter relay team that placed fifth overall with a time of 3:42.17.

Doremus Alexander is also heading to the state meet after placing seventh overall in the 200-meter race. He posted a 23.17 mark, edging out a runner from Chattahoochee County.

The Tigers’ 4x100-meter relay team, which consists of Alexander, Evan Andrews, Quindrell Chattman and Brian Mullens, placed fifth overall with a 44.73 mark.

Also, the 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relay teams are heading to the state meet after posting fifth and eighth-place finishes, respectively.

Freshman Kevin Wynn qualified for the state meet after placing fourth in the discus competition with a throw of 123-10.

Also, Rodricus Monford Jr., placed eighth overall in the discus event with a mark of 116-7.

Cameron Carmichael is the only other member of the boys’ team that qualified for an individual event.

He placed sixth overall in the long jump (5-08) and fourth overall in the triple jump (41-3), respectively. Both marks were season records for Carmichael.

Aveon Baugh, Quan Benford, Mason Glenn, Osvaldo Lopez, Yordy Lopez, Lamar Lowe, = Mullens, Jalen Peek, Devin Porter and Arkiyus Wright are the other athletes from Greene County that are headed to the state meet.

The girls’ team qualified three individuals and as many relay teams for the state meet.

A’nia Monford placed eighth overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.16.

Alliyah Rhodes placed fifth overall in the long jump with a mark of 15-4.25, which is a season-best.

Also, Kimora Harper had a seventh-place finish in the triple jump event with a mark of 28-8.

The girls’ team had several relay teams qualify for the state meet.

The Lady Tigers’ 4x100- meter placed fifth on Saturday with a time of 53.52.

Also, their 4x400-meter relay team placed seventh overall, posting a mark of 4:54.38.

Greene County’s 4x800- meter relay team placed eighth with a time of 2:04.40.

Sariah Armour, Quanas Benford, Sherly Camacho, Tiejah Derby, Kassidy Gaines, Katelyn Gaines, Taylor Lamar and Jardyn Wingfield are the other athletes from GCHS that are headed to the state meet.

The final meet of the season will be held at Albany High School on Friday, May 13.
