Baxley leaves Greene County for Social Circle

Greene County boys and girls soccer coach Jacob Baxley recently accepted a job at his alma mater.

Baxley, who coached at Greene County for one season, is headed to Social Circle to coach the boys’ team.

Social Circle High School recently released a statement on social media about the hiring of Baxley, a 2013 graduate. The Walton County native has also coached at Lake Oconee Academy and Clarke Central in Athens.

“We’re thrilled to announce Jacob Baxley as the new head coach of our boys soccer program and social studies teacher,” the SCHS statement read. “With seven years of varsity coaching, his resume includes multiple playoff runs at Lake Oconee Academy, a historic Sweet 16 appearance at Clarke Central High School, and most recently developing strong programs in both varsity soccer and cross country at Greene County High School.”

Baxley began the job at Greene County in 2024. He was tasked with rebuilding the soccer program at the school.

Baxley helped lead the Lady Tigers to a playoff appearance this past season. The Tigers, unfortunately, missed the Class A Division II postseason, but Baxley noted after the season that significant progress had been made.

Baxley told Lake Oconee News that he is excited about this new opportunity, but said his time at Greene County was memorable.

“I’m incredibly thankful for my time at Greene County High School. The relationships I built with students, athletes, and colleagues will always mean a great deal to me,” he said. “It was a place of growth, learning, and meaningful experiences, both on and off the field.

He also confirmed accepting the SCHS teaching and coaching positions, calling them “an opportunity I’ve aspired to since first becoming a coach and educator.”

Baxley began his high school soccer coaching career as an assistant at Lake Oconee Academy before taking over as head coach of the Lady Titans. He then got the job as the head girls coach at Clarke Central, where he spent two seasons prior to his one-year stint at Greene County.

“While I’m excited for this next chapter, I’ll always carry a deep appreciation for the Greene County community, sincerely wish them the best, and will continue cheering for their success,” Baxley added.

Baxley will commute to Social Circle. His wife, Carina Baxley, is the head girls soccer coach at Lake Oconee Academy.
