Dear editor: This November, we have so much to be thankful for here at the Greene County School System, and I’d like to start by thanking our community for passing the ESPLOST education 1% sales tax renewal last week.

Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoff on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, will decide whether the 2023 Senate holds the 50-50 chamber status quo, or gives Democrats a 51-49 majority. The U.S Senate is 232 years old, and the Upper Chamber has had only 11 Black senators.

There is no need for a recitation here of Vince Dooley’s myriad and well-deserved accomplishments on and off the football field. You have seen and heard them numerous times since his passing on Oct. 28th at the age of 90. However, there is a side to this great man you might not know about.

It is interesting to see the reaction taking place in the city of Jacksonville regarding the playing of the Georgia-Florida game each October. It is easy to understand why Florida doesn’t want the game to go home and home as they are worried about what might happen.
