Dear editor: This is the first letter I have ever written to the newspaper editor that I can remember but after reading last week’s column which seemed to be from a left winger, meaning columnist Dick Yarbrough I felt a reply was surely needed!
I first want to emphasize this letter is in no way an indictment of the good work most teachers, both public and private, are doing on a daily basis.
Instead, it is directed at Mr. Yarbrough’s criticism of a voucher system, which will allow parents to choose schools of their choice, meaning successful public as well as private schools with under-performing and failing schools being improved or gradually eliminated.
But of course, teachers' unions are fighting this because it would establish a system to measure success or failure they certainly do not favor.
Then, of course, there are administrators such as a recent School Superintendent in Atlanta that encouraged cheating to make her look good, now gone thank God?
The voucher system would also give more influence to the parents as to how and what is being taught and dump all this Woke garbage which is really the responsibility at home and takes up valuable time in the classroom that should be devoted to learning the “three R’s”.
Is that not what the public school system was established to do, not spend time on social justice, gender identity, and such? I am reasonably sure even the teachers would be against having to do that?
All the parents I know are in total agreement and are speaking out as this is a major solution to help correct the problem by giving the parents more say in choosing and not being told what their children are being taught and where they go to school. I am sure there may be other ways also to help solve the problem as to why the failure rate of quality education has declined over the years, but I might suggest a few?
First and foremost taking God out of the schools followed by not singing of the National Anthem, the reliance on electronic devices for learning and in some cases a total lack of discipline!
Strange, a coach can be fired for saying a private prayer on the field after a game, but a transgender boy can rape a young girl in the school toilet and get away with it.
IS THIS EDUCATION? I don’t think so???
So Mr. Yarbrough I would hope you would not have used the age-old excuse of the left-wingers in always blaming the rich as being out of step in solving social problems, in this case, public education which should be “available to all but not always utilized by all” and instead bring it down to their lowest level as is the left-wing norm? The much higher rate of success at private schools testifies to that!
Finally, what made the USA the greatest nation ever in the first place, smart people, hard work and “I will not fail attitude”, certainly not mediocrity?
