Dear Editor,
Considering the prospect of a second Trump presidency, it is important to reflect on his first term. While he now criticizes the Harris-Walz ticket and makes grand promises, we should ask why he didn’t deliver the first time.
Trump chanted, “Build the wall!” and promised Mexico would pay for it. The reality? While some sections were built, American taxpayers footed the bill. He vowed to repeal and replace Obamacare with something “better and less expensive.” Yet, the ACA remains, with no replacement plan ever pitched, let alone enacted.
Trump frequently touted a $1 trillion infrastructure plan. Ironically, it was during the Biden administration that America saw the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
He also promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington. Instead, he’s become the poster child of the swamp by facing so many criminal charges.
As the campaign heats up, you’ll continue to hear Trump poke and jab at his opponent’s plans, but if you listen carefully, you’ll never hear him articulate a concrete plan - just bold statements without substance.
Before we buy into new promises, let’s remember the unmet ones from the past. History tends to repeat itself.
