Letter to the Editor: Where is Collins?

Dear Editor,

The campaign of Lexy Doherty, congressional candidate for Georgia’s 10th District, shot past the $200,000 mark in fundraising during the third quarter, making it the best-funded Democrat challenge in this part of the state in decades. The campaign now sets its sights on the quarter-million dollar mark as small-dollar donations continue to flow to Doherty.

Voters and donors see in Doherty a viable Democratic challenger to Representative Collins, but the freshman congressman has strenuously avoided all debates and forums where the two could be judged by voters side-by-side. He has even dodged district print media requests to present his ideas alongside Doherty. Already, the brand new, first-term member of Congress appears to disregard voters as though he’s a 10-term Capitol Hill aristocrat above it all.

Collins is more frequently seen outside of Georgia campaigning for Donald Trump and other MAGA candidates. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Georgians in his own district are effectively robbed of a real election where both candidates make their case to voters. He couldn’t even convince his friend Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s “Team Trump Bus Tour” to make a stopover this way last week.

Collins posted on X just yesterday, “If you’re a Republican office holder … you should be spending your time and resources” to “ensure we put Trump back in the White House.” Collins’ MAGA distractions are plainly apparent, and perhaps it’s best if he is dismissed from his day job so that he can dedicate himself to Trump full-time.
