Letter to the Editor: What is going on with Greensboro PD?

Dear Editor,

I have sat on this for a few months and couldn’t decide whether to risk it and stand up for what’s right or let it be.

I have become somewhat familiar with Greene County/Greensboro and not in a positive way. I dated a police officer employed by the Greensboro Police Department, whose job duties include protecting Greene County kids as a school resource officer at Anita White Carson Middle School. We dated briefly in 2023, thankfully.

During our time together, I discovered he had a fourth child that had never been spoken about publicly. Born in August of 2023, the mother of the child was then a senior at Greene County High School. Yes, read that again. A school resource officer impregnated a student.

It’s been reported.

First, to the superintendent, who reported it to the chief and assistant chief of the Greensboro Police Department. Before I was aware of this, I kept up with the department’s Facebook page. It is a very active, community-focused page that promotes charitable organizations, community outreach, and community involvement.

But?

I wish I could tell the public why I still cannot get them to take the evidence I have. What was done with the phone number I gave them that the officer and the student communicated through? I had videos, texts, and screenshots to show and turn in. According to their published policies and procedures, allegations of misconduct are investigated by their internal affairs department. This did not happen.

I have a video where the assistant chief informs me that he will provide the open records regarding the investigation. During our conversation, I can be heard saying that if they require anything from me, they should feel free to reach out. I also offered to return to the police department if necessary.

I never got my records. I found out there was no investigation after I filed an Opens Records Complaint with the state attorney general (AG).

The Greensboro city attorney typed a nice letter informing the AG that I had declined to give any background information on where I thought there would be an investigation.

The video proves this as false.

The superintendent and board know of these allegations.

The mayor knows but did not respond to an email. The chief and assistant chief know. The sheriff knows. Mandated reporters investigate that.

School employees are mandated reporters, roommates with certain occupations are, law enforcement is, and healthcare workers are, too.

I still have all my evidence ready. This child who was impregnated deserves an investigation.

The residents of Greene County and the children in Greene County schools are owed an investigation. The child is his spitting image and has his last name. A close relative confirmed baby No. 4.

A DNA test would remove all doubt.

Thank you for reading,
