In the Jan. 5 edition of Lake Oconee News, a cartoon on page A4 titled “2024 Resolutions? How about...” includes several suggestions including “Two Parent Home”. I am writing to express my disappointment in the decision to use this cartoon inclusive of this phrase.
My sister is a single mother. She was married to the father of her two children, a decorated former Marine until his physical and emotional abuse towards her and their children reached a level of severity no one should endure. I am immensely proud of her for divorcing him and raising their two children alone.
Her children are now college graduates, gainfully employed, and wonderful people. Sadly, all of them will forever be scarred from the days when they lived in fear of their father’s fist.
Before painting with broad strokes, understand that a “Two Parent Home” may be the worst possible resolution for some families to make this year.
