Dear Editor,
Recently, a video of Pastor Loran Livingston has gone viral. In the video, the pastor delivers a sermon on bringing politics into the church.
The pastor states, “Don’t be talking to me about my spiritual responsibility to vote. I don’t have a spiritual responsibility to vote. I have a civic privilege ... You say, “Wow, there’s a Bible out now that includes the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Isn’t that wonderful?” No, it’s disgusting. It’s blasphemous. It’s a ploy.”
The pastor continues: “Let me tell you something. The gospel is not an American gospel. It is the gospel of the Lord Jesus.”
As we continue toward a hotly contested primary and general election season, I encourage my neighbors to hear Pastor Livingston's words.
Let this echo in your hearts: some things are bigger than politics. We should uphold unity and humility and build a community grounded in love and compassion.
