Letter to the Editor: In all His glory

Dear Editor,

With just five weeks until Election Day, when our vote will determine the next leader of the free world, much of our cultural discourse, as represented in politics, has been reduced to opposing factions disputing conflicting viewpoints.

\With the media perpetuating half-truths and misinformation, we are too often inclined to listen to those who tell us what we are predisposed to hear. At times, we would be better served by an introjection of a more open-minded disposition.

As the term “introjection” suggests an unconscious process of internalizing the thoughts or personality traits of others, perhaps we can find the motivation to make a conscious choice to listen more to the answers and insights available within ourselves.

Over the past year, my family has been challenged by what can only be described as a personal health crisis. While specific details might help some relate more intimately, I hope the intended message comes through without delving too deeply into those particulars.

In January, identifying a medical condition from signs and symptoms began. Within a few short weeks, physical examinations, blood work, imaging tests, and biopsies culminated in a diagnosis of cancer. Following this, a treatment plan was outlined, which included chemotherapy, surgery, more chemotherapy, and, currently, an extended schedule of targeted therapy.

Throughout these nine months, without exception, every medical professional and supporting staff member has expressed a caring concern and an optimistic outlook. Their collective expertise and skill have undoubtedly contributed to today’s optimistic reports, though there is still more to do.

Despite this medical backing, I became aware that in making this journey, at times, there have been periods of significant precarity - times when I felt as though I was falling without a net to catch me. Yet, in those same moments of feeling adrift and most alone, my faith has repeatedly allowed me to find peace, reminding me that it is all in God’s hands. It is He who guides the physicians in their healing endeavors, and it is He who allows me to find peace amidst the uncertainty.

Through this journey, I’ve been profoundly reminded that through prayer, I can transform my feelings of unknowing into an appreciation for God’s grandeur, His unconditional love, and the gift of life itself.

To those of you who have closely followed this journey and responded with heartfelt prayers and encouragement, I thank you with all my heart. Join me as I proclaim, “All glory to God.”
