Letter to the Editor: Affordability — a hoax?

Let the celebrations begin!

Our fearless leader in the White House has informed us that affordability is nothing more than a Democratic hoax.

What a relief!

It’s comforting to know that the rising cost of housing, vehicles, and groceries exists only as a hoax.

As of this writing, the least expensive two-bedroom, two-bath home in Greene County is $149,900; there are only three two-twos in the entire county for less than $200,000. A 12-pack of Coca-Cola at Publix costs $11.59. The base price of a standard Ford F-150 XLT is $45,695. These are not abstract economic indicators or partisan talking points — they are real prices of items that working Americans want and need.

Should we congratulate our restaurant workers, security gate guards, and teachers on the official end of the affordability crisis? Can they now quit their second and third jobs? Can they take a sigh of relief, believing that their struggles were imaginary all along?

Let’s get real: Affordability is not a hoax. It is a daily, measurable reality for working Americans and retirees on fixed incomes. Dismissing it as political fiction, especially when it comes from a billionaire who has never lived a day of his life without the privilege of extreme wealth, is not just out of touch.

It isn't very kind. It’s time to stop believing the billionaire in the gold-plated Oval Office has any clue or care about our affordability.
