East Georgia Concert Chorale to perform next month

Lake Country’s newest choral ensemble, the East Georgia Concert Chorale, will perform next month at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church to benefit The Victory Train.

The concert, “Opposites Attract,” will include choral music by Byrd, Vivaldi, Morley, Pitoni, Rutter, Hagenberg, Gawthrop, Osiek, and a spiritual. The theme allows listeners to ponder the expressivity of texts from different periods, sacred versus secular, major versus minor keys, a cappella versus accompanied, contrasting tempos, and oppositions within the text.

Twenty-five volunteer singers from all across Lake Country, hailing from Greene, Putnam, Morgan, and Taliaferro counties, comprise the choir. Dr. Brian Williams is the conductor, with Dr. Jana Williams the accompanist.

The 45-minute concert will be free to attend, with no tickets required. At the end of the concert, an opportunity will be offered to donate to The Victory Train, a community organization with a mission to ensure that every child in Greene County is on a successful pathway to learning and high school graduation.

The East Georgia Concert Chorale is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 20 at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Greensboro Rd., Eatonton.
