GBI asked to investigate shooting at Plantation Quail

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has asked the GBI for assistance in the investigation of a shooting that took place this morning at Plantation Quail on Hwy 15 between Greensboro and Siloam.

Preliminary reports say the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Update from Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison at 5:34 p.m. Friday:

Deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Greensboro Police Department, responded to Plantation Quail at 1940 Highway 15 South at noon Friday in reference to an employee who shot another at the lower processing warehouse.

Upon arrival, deputies and officers took 40-year-old Dimas Sanchez Ruiz of Greensboro into custody without incident and quickly located the victim, 30-year-old Rod-Riez Dameyian Tripp of Union Point, and began to render aid and life-saving measures.

The scene was secured, and Greene County Fire and Rescue and EMS responded quickly and recovered the victim and transported him to Piedmont Hospital in Athens, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of gunshot wounds.

The GBI Region Six Office in Milledgeville was called in to assist in the investigation, and other agencies responded, including the Greensboro Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office due to the initial 911 call of multiple shots being fired at a place of industry.

There were no other victims or suspects identified, and there was no immediate threat to any nearby residences or communities.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. Ruiz is being charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault.
