Morgan County Sheriff’s Office forms foundation

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Foundation, Inc., a new non-partisan, non-profit organization, has been established to strengthen public safety in Morgan County by leveraging the recently passed Law Enforcement Strategic Support bill.

Known as the LESS Crime Act (Senate Bill 361), this legislation offers tax incentives for individuals and businesses who contribute to local law enforcement foundations, ensuring that public safety personnel have the resources and tools they need to serve and protect the community effectively.

The LESS Crime Act introduces a tax credit program that allows individuals and businesses to make qualified donations to certified local law enforcement foundations and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their Georgia state tax liability.

These contributions will be used to support vital initiatives, including officer training, the purchase of specialized equipment, and the creation of emergency response teams that incorporate behavioral health specialists.

“This law offers a unique opportunity for our community members to directly support the sheriff’s office while benefiting from tax credits,” Morgan County Sheriff Tyler Hooks said. “The foundation will be instrumental in enhancing our ability to serve and protect the citizens of Morgan County. We’re excited to use these resources to purchase, train, and support a canine unit, among other initiatives. Securing additional funding without increasing the tax burden on our citizens is essential, and this is a significant step forward.”

Hooks further stressed the importance of the foundation in helping the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office operate at its highest capacity, ensuring both enhanced safety and community well-being.
