A former Greene and Taliaferro County deputy arrested in September of 2024 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by Ocmulgee Superior Court Judge Amanda Petty, according to the district attorney’s office.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged Joshua Wilson, 29, of Winterville, with home invasion in the first degree, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, simple battery (under the family violence statute) obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call, and criminal damage to property in the second degree following in incident that occurred on the morning of Sept. 5.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to assist with a domestic violence investigation after deputies responded to an address in Greensboro.
The investigation showed that Wilson entered a home and got in a fight with residents there. At the time of the incident, Wilson was a deputy with the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office and was off-duty. Wilson later turned himself in to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
Wilson accepted the plea deal of 20 years with 10 to serve at his arraignment on March 17.
