AWCMS boys soccer team wins region championship

GREENE COUNTY

The Anita White Carson Middle School (AWCMS) boys soccer team recently won the 2025 Northeast Georgia Middle School Soccer League Region Championship, capping off a season of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

The Greensboro-based team clinched the championship March 13 with a hard-fought victory over Lake Oconee Academy. The match ended in a 0-0 tie, forcing a penalty kick shootout, in which AWCMS emerged victorious with a final score of 3-1. Their path to the championship was well-earned, having defeated Lincoln County in the semi-finals to advance to the title match.

Throughout the season, AWCMS faced LOA twice, with their first encounter resulting in a 2-0 loss and their second ending in a 2-2 draw. Their perseverance and growth as a team paid off when it mattered most, securing them the championship trophy.

Coach Antonio Duran praised the team’s dedication.

“As a coach, it has been a pleasure to practice with this group of young athletes who have put in the hours to hone their skills and improve their performance both as individuals and as a team,” he said. “We will continue working on their growth next season.”
