Third time is not the charm in trailer theft

According to reports, an Augusta man who stole an enclosed trailer valued at $8,000 from an address off Monticello Highway crashed into a wall three times on Dec. 26.

He then left without the trailer.

Miequele Kieme Posey, 38, has been charged with criminal damage to property and criminal attempt.

The complainant in the case said he noticed Posey driving a brown Chevy truck at the rear of his business. Upon further investigation, he found that Posey had already attached the trailer's safety chains to the trailer hitch on his vehicle.

Posey told the complainant he was picking up the trailer for someone and later said he thought the trailer was abandoned property.

When the business owner told Posey he was calling the police, Posey attempted to leave with the trailer but struck a concrete wall with it.

According to the report, the impact caused Posey to stop, but he tried a second time and struck the wall again. On his third attempt, the impact on the wall caused the safety chains to break. Posey then fled the scene.

The business owner said gas logs inside the trailer valued at $5,000 were damaged during the incident.

Three hours later, Posey’s truck was found behind Farmview Market by Detective Joseph Pritchett of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Stacey Eaton responded to Farmview and found Posey with the vehicle.

When Posey’s license was checked through dispatch, officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant from another county.

Posey was then arrested and taken to the Morgan County jail.
