A Lithonia man was arrested by a Greene County deputy on multiple charges on Dec. 16 after a glass jar containing 2.5 ounces of MDMA was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
In addition to trafficking in narcotics charges, Kailan Michael Hunter, 35, of 3576 Cragstone Rd., is also being charged with an expired tag and possession of a firearm while trying to commit certain crimes.
According to reports, Deputy Leo Sierra initiated a traffic stop on a gray Kia Optima on I20 near milepost 130 because it had an expired registration and a possible window tint violation.
Sierra reported that upon making contact with Hunter, he could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
Hunter explained his expired tag by stating he had been having issues with the emission inspection required.
Sierra performed a window tint test on the front windows, revealing a 16% light transparency, while a 20% score is required. Sierra asked Hunter if there were any illegal drugs in the car, and he told Sierra a friend of his might have left a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. Hunter also said he had a firearm in the car.
A search revealed a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun between the driver’s seat and the center console. Behind the front passenger’s seat, Sierra found a bag containing a large amount of small clear plastic bags, a black digital scale, a multicolor plastic container containing less than one ounce of marijuana, and a clear glass jar containing approximately 2.5 ounces of MDMA with a value of roughly $5,000.
Hunter was then arrested and transported to the Morgan County jail. Maurice’s Towing Services recovered the vehicle from the scene.
