Letter to the Editor: Publix coming to Eatonton

Dear Editor,

It was recently announced that a new retail, hotel, and residential development will be built next to Ace Hardware in Eatonton. With Publix as the anchor tenant, our local Nextdoor forum quickly erupted into a flurry of criticism and dismay: claims of monopolization, disappointment that it wasn’t Kroger, and so on.

To those who express doubt, I’d encourage them to visit the new Publix in Buckhead, Atlanta, affectionately known as “Disco Publix.”

This incredible store offers a range of unique features, including Pours Bar (serving coffee, tea, espresso, beer, wine, smoothies, and açaí), a sushi bar, a hot bar (serving burritos, nachos, and bowls), a popcorn bar, a sub counter (serving wraps, hot entrees, sides, and meats), a salad counter, and a pizza and pasta bar.

To Publix leadership, if you’re reading this: please consider making our new Eatonton location more like Disco Publix and less like the Greensboro Publix. And to the skeptics, let’s remember that not all Publix locations are the same. As with any new business, it’s worth giving it a fair chance.
