On Oct. 29, Morgan County broke ground on the pavilion for the new recreation department complex.
The pavilion was named in honor of Georgia-Pacific (GP) Madison Plywood, which presented a donation to the recreation department during the groundbreaking. GP supported Morgan County Parks and Recreation by donating $30,000 to sponsor the new pavilion and $2,500 to help maintain, upgrade, and repair the fields and aquatic center.
Plant manager Wesley Stone said the company was thrilled to partner with the county on the pavilion.
“This pavilion will be a space for families and children to come together throughout the area and enjoy activities,” Stone said. “It is a beautiful structure, and we are honored to have it named after Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood.”
Bill Kurtz, the chairman of the Morgan County Board of Commissioners, thanked GP during the groundbreaking for all its contributions to the county.
Lance Alexander, the director of Morgan County Parks and Recreation, also shared the department’s gratitude for the GP facility.
“We are excited to partner with Georgia-Pacific,” he said. “Their commitment to playing a vital role in parks and recreation through volunteering and providing resources makes an awesome impact. When I look at the pavilion at our new complex, which will soon display the name Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood, I think of this space's positive impact for generations to come. We are honored to have Georgia-Pacific investing in Morgan County Parks and Recreation.”
