Letter to the Editor: Trump not practicing teachings of Jesus

Dear Editor,

When comparing Donald Trump's actions to Jesus' teachings, key differences stand out that challenge us to consider the values we expect from leaders.

When he washed his disciples’ feet, Jesus taught humility and service. Trump, on the other hand, promotes his accomplishments, by focusing on personal success and wealth. While Jesus preached love and forgiveness, encouraging us to love our enemies, Trump is known for retaliating against critics, attacking opponents, and fueling division.

Jesus promoted peace and reconciliation, blessing the peacemakers, while Trump’s rhetoric is divisive, polarizing the nation during and after his presidency. Jesus emphasized caring for the marginalized and vulnerable, whereas Trump’s policies, such as family separation at the U.S. border, prioritized nationalism and wealth over compassion.

Lastly, Jesus valued truth and integrity, teaching that the truth sets us free. In contrast, Trump is accused of spreading misinformation, particularly around election fraud, undermining public trust to bolster his campaign.

These differences raise important questions about the qualities we seek in our leaders: should we follow those who embody humility and love or those who focus on personal gain and division?
