GWM to host bestselling author Colleen Oakley

Georgia Writers Museum has announced its Meet the Author presenter for November will be Colleen Oakley, an Atlanta-based USA Today bestselling author of The Invisible Husband of Frick Island, You Were There Too, Close Enough to Touch, Before I Go, and Jane and Dan at the End of the World.

On Nov. 5, Oakley will discuss her latest book, The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise, featuring Tanner Quimby, a 21-year-old college dropout with no money or credit who needs a place to live and a job – preferably one where she can play video games 19 hours a day in her sweatpants.

So, Tanner works as a live-in caregiver for an elderly woman named Louise Wilt.

Louise has no interest in having a full-time live-in nanny. She can still walk fine, finish her daily crossword puzzle, and pour the two fingers of vodka she enjoys every afternoon. But her controlling daughter demands otherwise.

Tanner and Louise start their living arrangement by ignoring each other until Tanner notices weird things.

For instance, why does Louise keep her garden shed locked up tighter than a prison? Why is the local news fixated on the suspect of one of the biggest jewelry heists in history who looks eerily like Louise? And why does Louise suddenly appear in Tanner’s room at 1 a.m., with a packed bag, insisting they leave town immediately?

Thus begins the story of a not-to-be-underestimated elderly woman and an aimless young woman who—if they can outrun their past mistakes — just may have the greatest adventure of their lives.

New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews wrote, “A funny, fresh take on unlikely friendships and family, I’d ride shotgun with Tanner and Louise in a heartbeat!” Don’t miss the rest of this captivating story.

Oakley will present on The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise beginning at 7 p.m., Nov. 5 (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) with tickets $40 each or $35 each for two or more. Each ticket will also include a gourmet dinner created by Chef Brent around this wildly surprising, creative, and entertaining book.

Oakley’s books have been translated into more than 20 languages, optioned for film, and received numerous accolades, including Library Reads Pick, Top 21 Books by O Magazine, Today Show’s Best Summer Read, and People Magazine’s Best New Book.

A proud University of Georgia Journalism School graduate, Oakley has served as editor of Marie Claire and Women’s Health and Fitness magazines. Her articles and interviews have been featured in The New York Times, Ladies’ Home Journal, Marie Claire, Women’s Health, Redbook, and Parade.
