The first Pistons for Paws Charity Car and Aircraft Show got underway Sunday morning at the City of Madison Airport. All proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Morgan County.
This event was sponsored personally by oncologist Dr. Richard Carter from Atlanta Cancer Care in Conyers, with participating sponsors Alliance and Country Side of Madison.
Admission to the public was free, and registration for cars and aircraft began at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee was $20 plus an item to stuff the Paws truck, such as laundry detergent, dry puppy food or kitten chow, scoopable cat litter, or a $5 Walmart or Ingles gift card.
Pistons for Paws featured a wide variety of vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles, and, on the runway, some super vintage aircraft. Throughout the day, planes landed and took to the skies while people inspected and voted on all the cars and aircraft on show. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and drinks were cooked on the grill by volunteers from the Humane Society.
At 3 p.m., the awards for best in show for aircraft and car were announced, along with the winner of the 50/50 raffle, who received a $10,000 check.
Only 200 tickets were sold for $100 each, and all tickets were sold. Special thanks to Dr. Carter; with such good crowds, next year promises to be even better.
