An unidentified white male walked into the TA Travel Center on Eatonton Road on June 28 and walked out with nearly $9,000 of electronic devices, according to the Madison Police Department.
Reports say the man wore sunglasses, a white fishing hat with blue trim, a Dart T-shirt, an orange short-sleeve button-down shirt, blue jeans, and light-colored shoes and carried two bags into the business with him.
Surveillance video shows the man walking inside the store to the laundry room, where he put the bags on a counter while he talked on his cell phone.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., the man walked to a glass case at the back of the store and fumbled with one of the two locks on it.
He walked around the store for seven minutes before returning to the case. He then retrieved a key from his shirt pocket, opened the case, returned the key to his pocket, unlocked the case, and slid the glass door open.
He then removed the GPS devices and placed them in the bags he had brought with him before leaving the store.
According to the report, the man walked back to a black vehicle in the parking lot and soon returned with the bags, which then appeared empty.
The man then walked back into the store and waited a moment before looking around and opening the glass case again to remove more electronic equipment, which he put in the bags.
According to the report, the suspect then walked to the front of the store, took a t-shirt from a shelf, and wiped his fingerprints off the glass doors of the case before locking it.
After returning to the black vehicle, the man got in the front passenger seat and turned north on Highway 441.
According to Madison Assistant Chief of Police Colin Campbell, detectives are actively investigating the theft and pursuing leads.
