Morgan County High School golfer Drew Eidson lived out the experience of a lifetime earlier this summer.
Eidson competed in an Under Armour national tournament in Florida, hoping to continue playing on the tour. The young Bulldog golfer enjoyed his experience playing against the nation’s best competition at his age.
Eidson has been playing golf almost his entire life, and now it’s the only sport he plays. He was honored to face some of the nation’s best and compete on the big stage. Eidson wanted to make the most of this golden opportunity.
“I’ve played in a couple of events on the Under Amour tour, and it’s been an honor to play in those, especially the national tournament,” Eidson said. “Getting to go there and have that experience was wonderful.”
To attend the Under Armour Summer Nationals, Eidson had to average under a 43 in all seven Junior Tour tournaments. He did just that, averaging a 42 across every tournament to qualify for the Summer Nationals event. Eidson also qualified for the Summer Nationals by winning an Under Armour event in Dekalb County.
At the Junior Tour events, Eidson played nine holes, although he got to play two rounds of 18 in Florida last month. He participated in the 15-18 age division, shooting 180, with rounds of 93 and 87 at the event.
“It was a really cool experience to attend. Under Armour did a great job of hosting,” Eidson said. “They treated all the kids like pros. It felt like a Major event. Looking back, it was a great experience getting to do that. [At Summer Nationals], I didn’t finish how I wanted to, and I definitely could’ve played better. I was honestly grateful to have the experience of traveling to West Palm Beach and playing an event at a PGA course.”
Eidson will next get ready for the Under Armour Fall Junior tour, also with hopes of continuing in the winter.
Eidson believes his experience at the Summer Nationals will help his high school team next season.
Eidson is one of Morgan County’s best-returning golfers, and he hopes to help his team reach the state tournament under head coach Max Gaubert next season. The Bulldogs fell just short of qualifying for state last year.
The national tournaments helped Eidson develop parts of his game and showed him what he could improve on.
“I think it will impact me [and the team],” Eidson said. “I will be ahead, and now try to focus on school ball.”
