A Greene County deputy arrested an Oklahoma man on July 1 after K-9 Deputy Griff alerted him to narcotics during a traffic stop.
Ted Jacob Dohmann, 45, faces charges of trafficking marijuana after originally being pulled over for following too closely.
Deputy Matthew Cowdrey stopped Dohmann near milepost 132 westbound. Dohmann said the vehicle was a rental and showed Cowdrey the rental agreement and his Oklahoma license.
Cowdrey said that while speaking with Dohmann at his vehicle previously, he saw several backpacks, cooler bags, cigarette packs, and “road trash” throughout the vehicle.
When asked where he was coming from, Dohmann told Cowdrey he had driven an “acquaintance” of his to North Carolina.
According to the report, Dohmann first stated he stayed in North Carolina for a few days, then revised his story and said he just stayed the night and was now returning to Oklahoma.
Cowdrey asked for permission to search Dohmann’s vehicle, but Dohmann said he would rather not allow the search.
Deputy Leo Sierra and K-9 Deputy Griff were summoned to the scene for a free-air sniff of the vehicle.
According to the report, Griff gave a positive alert to the odor of controlled substances inside of the vehicle. Dohmann told Cowdrey he had a medical marijuana card, but when asked if there was marijuana in the car, he became nervous, according to the report.
A search of the vehicle was then performed, and Cowdrey found nine plastic bags containing marijuana, one plastic Tupperware containing marijuana, two glass jars containing marijuana, and one paper bag containing marijuana.
According to the report, the marijuana was scattered throughout the vehicle in backpacks, plastic trash bags, paper bags, and plastic totes, with the majority of it being located in the rear compartment.
Dohmann was then placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan County Jail. The marijuana weighed in excess of 10 pounds.
