Rock Lobsters release 2024-25 season schedule

The Rock Lobsters, Athens’ new Federal Professional Hockey League (FPHL) team, has released its inaugural 2024-25 season schedule.

Most notably, the previously announced Oct. 26 date for the team’s home opener in the still-under-construction Capital Center Arena has been postponed to Dec. 6, meaning the team will start its season on the ice with 11 road games.

Under recently hired head coach Steve Martinson, the Rock Lobsters, one of three new FPHL teams this year, will play 56 regular season games in the 14-team league.

Though an official roster has not yet been announced, the FPHL website (federalhockey.com) lists 13 players for the Lobsters, including six U.S. players, four Canadians, and three Russians, with six rookies among them. No goaltenders have been signed so far, and teams typically have 18 skaters dressed for each game.

The Rock Lobsters will open their FPHL Continental Division season on Oct. 11 against the Monroe Moccasins, another team new to the FPHL in Louisiana.

They will wrap up the regular season on April 12, 2025, against cross-state rivals the Columbus River Dragons, which reached the FPHL semi-finals last season.
