Morgan County rising senior Draco Frazzitta has seen his hard work pay off in the last few months.
Frazzitta, who plays tight end and linebacker for the Bulldogs, has garnered interest from several Division I programs in recent months and currently holds offers from Georgia State, UAB, and Navy.
“It’s what all football players work toward, an opportunity to play at the next level,” Frazzitta said. “I give all my glory to God. This is truly a blessing. It means a lot and shows that what my parents did for me wasn’t wasted. They put their faith in me, and I thank them for what they’ve done.”
Earlier this year, Frazzitta started receiving interest from smaller schools, such as Cornell and Wofford. His recruitment then exploded as invites from different camps and larger schools came his way.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound two-way player for Morgan County has visited several colleges over the last few years, including Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee State, and Virginia Tech. Frazzitta attended camp at several Division I schools, too, where his size and talent didn’t go unnoticed by the college coaches.
Frazzitta says college coaches want him to shift to offensive tackle at the next level. He knows it will be a tough transition, but said he feels ready for whatever challenge comes his way.
“I will do anything they ask of me,” Frazzitta said.
Morgan County head coach Clint Jenkins isn’t surprised to see Frazzitta reaping the benefits of his hard work. Jenkins has coached Frazzitta since he was a freshman and has enjoyed seeing him grow.
“[Draco] has been super versatile for us. He’s a great blocker [and] a big, long kid,” Jenkins said. “I think he has tremendous potential. I think you can see a little bit of his athleticism being able to play linebacker, on the defensive front, and at tight end. That’s great when you’ve got a guy like that who can wear many different hats in high school football. He’s also a tremendous young man.”
Frazzitta is familiar with the recruiting process, having watched his older brother Dom go through it a few years ago. The elder Frazzitta taught his brother what playing at the next level is like.
“[Dom] showed me that [the next level] is not like high school football. It’s like a full-time job,” the younger Frazzitta said. “You’ve got stuff you’ve got to do; it’s hard work all the time. First, you’ve got to get the grades in school. You can’t lack in that. Bad grades equal no football. Also, in the weight room, you’ve got to keep going, grinding. You’ve got to keep pushing yourself, no matter what.”
Frazzitta is taking an open stance about his recruitment entering his senior season. He wants to let the recruiting process play itself out and hopes to enjoy his last year of high school ball with his friends.
Frazzitta has high aspirations for Morgan County this season but wants his team to accomplish even more next year.
“One of my personal goals is to help my teammates become better men,” Frazzitta said. “It’s not about football. It’s about building relationships. I want to have teammates there for me if I need something. We have a tight brotherhood.
“Regarding team goals, we went 10-2 and lost to the state runner-up,” Frazzitta recalled. “Hopefully, we can compete better with the teams like that and make a deep playoff run.”
