Circle of Friends held its 16th annual Dawgy 5K on Saturday. The run took place through the residential streets of Greensboro, starting from Oconee Brewing.
Despite the rain, a large turnout of dogs and humans supported the run, with all proceeds going to COFAS.
All participants received a collectible Dawgy Dash T-shirt and did not need a dog to participate. Prizes were awarded to the top three men and women and five dogs.
COFAS rescued 704 animals in 2023, representing a combination of accepting them from animal control facilities and owner surrenders. They never turn anyone away due to pre-existing conditions and ensure all their rescues receive necessary medical care before finding their forever homes.
COFAS has invested more than $39,700 in 2023 in support of its community with vital spay/neuter/medical programs and believes no family should be required to make difficult pet ownership decisions due to cost issues.
With a fantastic support team that includes Durham Veterinary Clinic and Lake Oconee Animal Hospital, COFAS has created multiple programs to assist area residents and its primary outreach programs, one of which is a low-cost spay/ neuter program at the low rate of $50 per dog and $30 for cats.
Pet owners must reside in Greene, Hancock, and Putnam counties to qualify for this benefit.
