Letter to the Editor: Humane Society of Morgan County December Update

Dear Editor,

The Humane Society of Morgan County staff, volunteers, and board members are greatly appreciative of all of the support we have received throughout November and beyond!

In November, we received over $13,000 in donations before we were given a $5,000 matching donation from our generous anonymous donor! We cannot thank you enough for pouring into our establishment over the past two months.

This month, we have another anonymous matching donor who will match up to $5,000 donated throughout December. We have already received over $1,500. With all of the hard times we have gone through this year, we need these funds to continue our lifesaving mission. We are continuing to operate at normal capacity so that we may continue to provide this service to our community and surrounding communities.

With the help of the public, we can match this $5,000 challenge and maintain our reputation of being one of the best no-kill shelters in Georgia. We thank everyone in advance for their support.

The donations received from the public will go to support rescuing dogs and cats that have been abandoned, are strays, or have been taken from abusive environments. They must be vaccinated, treated for disease or injury, spayed or neutered, fed, walked, and have cages kept clean.

The cost for an average stay for a healthy cat or dog before the animal is adopted to a forever home is close to $400, but the highest adoption fee is $300. The low adoption cost helps find forever homes, but the difference has to come from donors because the center receives no government money or funding from the Humane Society of the United States.

If the public can help with the humane society’s struggle, donations can be made online at www.humanemorgan. org; by mailing a check to 1170 Fairground Rd., Madison, GA 30650; or by calling the center at 706-343-9977 to pay with a credit card.

We certainly need our community’s help, because the animals we have rescued deserve a better life. We work daily to keep costs low. All of our employees are part-time and work here because of their love of cats and dogs. With the public’s help, we can match this $5,000 challenge.
