GREENE COUNTY
A young former marine walking across America to raise awareness for men’s mental health passed through Greene and Morgan counties last week as he nears completion of his epic journey.
Dalton Mack, a Missouri native who spent seven years in the Marine Corps, began his walk nearly four months ago in Oceanside, California. He has passed through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas and recently spent time in South Carolina and Georgia.
According to his Facebook page, he expects to complete his journey in less than a month.
According to Morgan County Fire and Rescue, Mack reached out for a place to sleep and stayed with firefighters at Station 16 in Morgan County on Oct. 20 and Greene County firefighters the next day.
“Huge thank you to Morgan County and Greene County Fire for giving me two straight days around good guys and four walls. This marks five stations since arriving in Georgia. The walk continues, so please keep sharing this message, so it can reach who it needs to.”
Mack has established a GoFundMe page at https://gofundme.com/68ba7b74.
“Hello, I’m Dalton (or Kevin). As a man, and a veteran, I’ve been around a fair amount of other men that have trouble expressing their thoughts, feelings or grief beneficially,” his gofundme page reads. “Unfortunately, that also means I’ve known a few men that have taken their own lives, potentially due to this. I’m walking across the United States to raise awareness and funds for the Movember charity – https://movember.com/m/14973660?mc=1.
The gofundme is to help with the walk itself, cart repairs, supplies or whatever else.
