Rutledge man arrested for assault

A Rutledge man was arrested on Sept. 17 on assault and battery charges following an altercation with his wife.

Thomas Jammie Loggins faces one count of felony battery and one count of felony aggravated assault by strangulation.

According to reports, Loggins went to the Rockdale County Biker Club, just off Dixie Highway, with his wife and became upset when he saw her dancing with another man at the club.

He left the club and started walking home. He was eventually picked up by his 17-year-old son and taken to his home. He told deputies he went into his shop to watch football game highlights.

When his wife came home, she came into the shop and started punching him, according to what Loggins told deputies, causing a bruise and a cut on his forehead.

He said he pushed his wife away and caused her to fall over some equipment in the shop and injure her nose.

The wife left and went next door. Sgt. Christopher Lash arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and made contact with the wife. She was checked out by EMS and appeared to have been punched in the face, according to the report.

Further investigation revealed that Loggins had a swollen hand, which he said was the result of punching a tree.

According to the report, Loggins changed his story several times on the way to jail.

Sgt. Brandi Newsome later said that the wife had a broken bone around her left eye socket and was transferred to another hospital.
