Everybody likes a rodeo, or so it seemed last Saturday at Greene County’s AG Expo Center on C. Weldon Smith Road. Now in its 24th year, the Greene County Livestock Association brought excitement to the area in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
The event featured special rodeo events and included bareback riding, steer wrestling, bronco riding, team roping and tie-down roping for the men. The women competed in breakaway roping and barrel racing.
The animal corrals had the menagerie expected of horses, cattle, bulls and special bucking horses, a favorite of the show. Specialty vendors sold “cowboy ware” with an assortment of cowboy hats, lassos and chap wear. The local 4-H Club had a food tent that remained busy all evening.
Doug Hidon, one of the promoters from the Greene County Livestock Association, shared his view on bringing these rodeos to the public.
“Rodeos are iconic,” he said. “They celebrate Western heritage and culture and bring people back to a place in time when rodeo activities where commonplace among the cowboys who worked the range.”
Approximately 200 professional ranchers and rodeo enthusiasts participated in the event, with awards presented to the winners.
And, the rodeo clown even got one, too.
