The Lake Country Chorus feels very fortunate to have Donna Valvo and Amy Reber – two long-time renowned musicians – leading the choir’s 40 talented vocalists on a weekly basis. The chorus would not be where it is today without their genius guidance and artistic vision.
Chorus Director Valvo attended Houghton College in western New York State and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music, with a major in voice and music education. She also studied piano and advanced choral conducting at the university. Later, while teaching music at The Galloway School in Atlanta, Valvo directed full-length Broadway musicals, including “42nd Street,” “Into the Woods,” “The Music Man,” “Mame,” and “The Boyfriend.”
In addition to her Lake Country Chorus role, Valvo serves as music director at both Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church and Union Point Presbyterian Church. She also teaches private voice and piano lessons and operates a project recording and scoring studio.
“My life’s work is helping people create music by developing skills, blending, and harmonizing,” said Valvo, a 20-year veteran with Lake Country Chorus. “Singing in harmony with well-tuned voices is a joyful, moving and amazing experience.”
Reber, meanwhile, is not far behind, having shared her talents with Lake Country Chorus for the past 18 years. She holds a bachelor’s in music for piano performance from Baylor University, a master’s in piano performance and pedagogy from Baylor University, and a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction in the fine arts from Piedmont University.
Reber is the lower and upper school music and piano teacher at Lake Oconee Academy, as well as choir director for Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.
“I look forward to working with the chorus each week,” Reber said. “It has allowed me to develop life-long friendships with some very talented people.”
The Lake Country Chorus will present its spring musical, “Singing Seven Days A Week,” April 20, at Festival Hall in Greensboro. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show, which includes timeless classics from The Beatles, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, and Broadway hits, among others, are $25 each and available through any chorus member or at the Bank South branch next to Publix.
