GREENE COUNTY
The Lake Oconee Academy girls’ basketball team improved to 11-1 and 2-0 in region play after defeating the Warren County Screaming Eagles 64-55 at home this past Tuesday.
The Lady Titans were able to put together a solid offensive performance after starting the game off on a positive note.
Head coach Savannah Soles’ team scored 19 points in both quarters of the first half and then 13 points in both quarters of the second half with everyone getting involved.
Lake Oconee Academy had seven girls score a basket, with three of those players putting up double digits.
Seniors Hannah Heinen and Jada Williams both had a team-high 17 points on the night while junior Georgia Bosart ended the contest with 16.
Heinen’s offense exploded in the second quarter, scoring 13 of the Lady Titans’ 19 points and helping the team get out to a decent lead heading into halftime.
Other players like Jacy Singleton and Mary Claire McCommons were also able to get more time on the court and contribute to the stat sheet.
Unfortunately for Lake Oconee Academy, Williams had to leave the game due to a back injury. The status of her injury is still unknown, but her talent will be missed if she ends up being out for an extended period of time.
She led the team in 3-pointers made and constantly played lockdown defense. Soles will look to other players like Bosart and guards Jane Monachello and Kensi Stevens to fill the void.
Since losing its first game of the season in early December, Lake Oconee Academy has won four contests in a row. Soles and company have cross-town rivals Greene County Friday in hopes to continue their region dominance.
