Holiday events bring Santa and crowds to Greensboro Christmas Village

>>> GREENE COUNTY

Christmas is less than three weeks away, the stockings are hanging from the mantle and Santa has been making the rounds throughout Greensboro.

Last weekend was a busy one that saw three successful holiday events sponsored in Lake Country. Greensboro’s new mayor, Corey Williams, made his Christmas tree-lighting debut Friday evening.

A tree on the lawn of the courthouse had festive lights and served as an opportunity for a prime photo opportunity. Many took advantage of the festive evening to shop for gifts, enjoy plentiful food from a number of food trucks, participate in special children’s activities and, of course, take photos with Santa.

Saturday morning, the Greensboro Business Association held its downtown Greensboro Christmas Village. The event was meant to capture the spirit of the season and bring residents and visitors to the area.

It provided a festive venue featuring local businesses downtown to showcase gifts for purchase for the holiday season. Santa made sure to visit the city once again to the excitement of the children and parents who attended. Lake Oconee Church on Highway 44 held its inaugural holiday event.

According to lead pastor Andy McQuaid, the church wanted to throw a Christmas party for the community despite some technical difficulties on site. A live band played throughout the evening, and Santa made his final appearance in the city.

Judging from the community participation, there won’t be too many lumps of coal earmarked for Greensboro.
