Dear Editor: Steve Kilgore represents District 1 on the Greene County Board of Education (BOE). He has served as Vice Chairman in this role for 4 years. He is an active member of a very effective BOE team that takes great pride to analyze issues and make decisions from a Countywide perspective.
He is a Veteran, married for 40 years and father of three, and has in-depth business experience in child development. This solid background has served him well on the BOE.
Kilgore has been a leader in aligning resources for education across the County including Atlas Ministries, Victory Train, Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Greene College and Career Academy. This level of coordination has helped the Greene BOE earn the Exemplary Board Award from the GA School Board Association. Improvements in Statewide test scores, particularly in grades one through three are an indication this is making a difference. He believes parent involvement is crucial to achieving our education goals and has been a key player with the Parent Advisory Committee that meets regularly. This year they started the Parent University to aid parents dealing with challenges their children face including attendance and homework.
We need Steve on the BOE to maintain the positive momentum he and the BOE, along with Chairman Mike Lynch and Superintendent Chris Houston have established. High on their list of objectives is to implement a Countywide Strategic Plan involving all leaders across Greene County to take the next steps in achieving the number 1 educational environment in the State of Georgia. This is seen as critical for the welfare of our youth as well as continued economic development in Greene County.
Vote for Steve Kilgore on Nov. 8.
