It’s one thing to verify election results that are extremely close. Our Georgia laws provide for recounts when this is the case. In 2020, Georgia had three recounts.
All at taxpayers’ expense. All proving the validity of the original count. In 2020, some people, watching their own small corner of election coverage, could just not imagine that their candidate could lose. Fake news spread an election falsehood and led to a coup attempt and violence at our Capital.
Getting news from your own bubble does not give the whole story. There were 81 million of us who voted for Biden. No, we did not swarm to campaign rallies and smackdowns and chant as if we were attending a sporting event. No, we don’t wear matching hats or fly large flags behind our trucks or boats. Because a presidential candidate is not our tribal warlord, and we are not part of a cult. We will not let social media gut our power to distinguish science from fiction or facts from propaganda.
The 2020 election was free and fair and one of the most secure in history. Please. We need rational adults in governing. Many of us come from generations of conservative voters. Our fore-bearers would be anguished at what the Republican party has become.
We are troubled at voters having their buttons pushed by those misleadingly chanting “radical socialist” over and over. This is gaslighting and fear-mongering. We are law-abiding, tax-paying, civic-minded citizens who have careers, businesses, investments, families, and visions for a kinder, healthier, and more just America. This is the UNITED States. We have multiple crises that need rational and thinking adults in leadership who are working for ALL of us. We need leaders with vision, political parties with policy platforms, and voters who are engaged in reality.
We have the numbers to advance our thoughtful candidates who are working for our freedoms. Look around. While every candidate has their merits and flaws, at this particular time in our country, Democrats represent democracy and Republicans represent autocracy. Forget about polling statistics. Look to your heart and mind. Get out and VOTE.
Respectfully, Anne Koppelmann - Del Webb Democrats
