Nine Diamond Dogs earn All-Region honors

The Morgan County baseball team recently had nine players garner All-Region 4-AAA honors.

The Diamond Dogs also had two players earn individual awards for their efforts this past season.

Sam Schofield was named the Region 4-AAA Pitcher of the Year. He led Morgan County in strikeouts (67) and posted a team’s third-best ERA (2.29).

Also, Jack Harper was named the Region 4-AAA Offensive Player of the Year. He led the team in home runs (11), RBI (40), hits (39) and batting average (.415).

Harper (INF), Bryce Bragg (P), Brendan Conway (OF) and Ben Coody (INF) all earned Region 4-AAA First-Team honors.

On the other hand, Conway (P), Ethan Mizell (OF), TJ Moore (INF), David Denton (INF) and Tripp Lancaster (Utility) were all named to the Region 4-AAA Second-Team.

Coody also earned honorable mention honors as a pitcher.

Morgan County’s 2022 season ended in the second round of the GHSA Class AAA playoffs.

The Diamond Dogs were eliminated by the Franklin County Lions back in May. They are set to return a majority of their roster next season as Coody is the only graduating senior.

Coody told the Lake Oconee News last week that the ‘future is bright’ for MCHS.

“For them to be as young as they were, and to go as far as they did, it was incredible,” Coody said. “The future is bright. I can’t wait to see what they will do next season.”
