The Greensboro City Council approved a winning bid of $125,800 from Callaway Site Services of Bogart for necessary repairs to Festival Hall. Ralph Boswell of Oconee Engineering reported that once the contract was approved and signed, work would commence Expected completion would be the end of August.
“The initial structural report was done in the fall,” Boswell said. “It confirmed the need for rafter support and new columns, footings and beams. Additionally, a new buttress wall needs to be built. The work will be done in stages throughout the summer with inspections performed routinely.”
Council also approved in a 3-1 vote for a one-time $3,000 bonus pay for all city workers, both part time and full time, who worked during the COVID pandemic. The funds were made available by the Department of the Treasury to the city in 2020 for a number of municipal services.
Johnny Porter, Street Department Supervisor, reported on the status of the city’s resurfacing projects, curbing and edging, fixing water piping lines and grass cutting. A number of resurfacing projects have already begun with filling potholes throughout the city. Several streets in order of importance have been identified for resurfacing in the city and are to be completed within the year. They are: Sycamore; North Spring; Richland Center; First Avenue; Plaining Mill Road; Rail Road; Claude Dryer; Armor Circle and Cannan Terrace.
