According to Greene County Fire and Rescue, westbound traffic was snarled for hours on I-20 on the night of April 18 due to a vehicle fire with hazardous material involved.
The incident occurred near milepost 139.
Fire crews arrived at 7:54 p.m. and began working to contain the fire. There was no immediate threat to public health, according to the Greene Fire and Rescue Facebook page.
Motorists were routed off the interstate at Exit 148 in Taliaferro County, because the westbound lanes were shut down for hours
A cleanup company arrived at 11 p.m., and an hour later had one lane open to vehicles.
